International Art Workshop Pienkow 2009

The winner of the Eighth International Art Workshop Pienkow2009 is Sam Knowles from London.

The Art Advisory Committee awarded participation in our workshop to the following artists:
Wroclaw Academy of Fine Arts (www.asp.wroc.pl) - Wojciech Kielar, Marlena Promna, Andrzej Rafalowicz, Hanna Sliwinska and Ewelina Sosniak; five artists from
Gdansk Academy of Fine Arts (www.asp.gda.pl) - Dorota Borowska, Ewa Juszkiewicz, Anna Kloc, Malgorzata Witschenbach and Marcin Zawicki; as well as two artists from
London - Dominic Madden (Central St. Martins, College of Art and Design www.csm.arts.ac.uk) and Sam Knowles (Wimbledon College of Art www.wimbledon.arts.ac.uk).

The artists were accommodated in Uher House of Creative Arts. The nice village atmosphere of Uher made for good work environment. The family care - including home cooked meals - was provided by Mrs. Teresa Chomik-Kazarian.

The opening of the workshop was celebrated by the opening of the painting exhibition of professor Jan van der Pol from the Royal Fine Arts Academy in Haag. Jan van der Pol was a juror at Pienkow workshops, a group of his students took part in the workshop a few year ago. The opening of his exhibition "New uncomfortable paintings" took place in the Gallery 72 of Chelm Museum.

Another exhibition opening took place one week later. Arkadiusz Karapuda, the winner of last years edition of Pienkow workshop brought to Chelm Museum a collection of 20 of his paintings, result of his work throughout the year.

During the workshop the artist took time to visit this part of Poland. Day trips to Lublin, Kozlowka and Kazimierz Dolny were organized.

Thursday evening the artists had to abandon their paintings. They were moved into Pienkow manor, where the professor - jurors prepared an exhibition. Then the jury voted for the winner of the Workshop competition.
Artistic Advisory Committee: Professor Baj from Academy of Fine Arts, Warsaw; Professor Anna Szewczyk from Academy of Fine Arts, Wrocław; Professor Zbigniew Gorlak from Academy of Fine Arts, Gdańsk; Professor Clem Crosby from Central St. Martins College of Art and Design, London; Professor Tomasz Zawadzki from University in Lublin; Professor Andriy Bokotey from Lviv National Academy of Arts, Oganes Kazarian, artist; Arkadiusz Karapuda, winner of the Workshop - Pienkow 2008 competition, and Dr. Marek M. Pienkowski.

The Workshop concluded with a fine gala at Dr. Pienkowski's residence Pienkow. This year we had to wait for a long time for the the Artistic Advisory Committee announced of its decision. First, the artists recounted their inspirations and presented their paintings at Dr Marek Pienkowski residence.
